The Gentle Falls

Painted en plein air on a damp April morning, The Gentle Falls captures a quieter stretch of the river above Rhaeadr Ddu. Clear water flows swiftly over moss-covered boulders, tinted with sienna and Payne’s grey. Forest trees lean overhead, their branches mirrored in the current, while a fallen trunk spans the river’s width. The grassy bank softens into the green hush of the woodland beyond—an intimate moment of movement, stillness, and spring colour.
